The renovation project concerned the ninth floor of the building in Via Carducci, Milan, designed for Edison by Gio Ponti in 1952. The new floor would be occupied by the management and representative offices of Enel Power, a company set up by Enel to design and construct electricity power stations. The project transformed the building’s original floor plan, with its central corridor and rooms in a serial sequence on either side, into an open space. The conference rooms and the few closed offices were concentrated at the ends of the floor. Curvilinear walls and furniture interrupted the monotony of the linear succession of rooms and enlivened the spaces. They also improved the functionality of relations between one place and another, between management offices, conference rooms, secretarial departments and informal meeting areas. A central floor spine distributes cabling, whilst a lowered ceiling above the external frames houses the conditioning delivery ducts.
