Organised on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th Anniversary of National Unity in the renovated exhibition rooms of the Sale delle Arti in the Reggia di Venaria, the exhibition recounts a century and a half of fashion history in Italy – from 1861 up to the Made in Italy phenomenon – through two hundred models ranging from authentic dresses belonging to historic figures that have marked the evolution of taste in Italy, to famed stage dresses made for popular cinema films. Mirrors mounted on large self-bearing pinewood frames display the clothes from every angle. Each room is dedicated to a decade, and the running-shot ends in the present, in the Reggia’s ex-theatre ready to stage a high fashion show. The frames, similar to scaffolding, allude to a set that will be dismantled after the event, leaving the building’s architecture intact.
