The exhibition of miniatures was opened September 17, 2016 in the halls of the boarding school of the Cini Foundation in Venice. The route highlights the incredible world enclosed in illuminated manuscripts, small works full of symbolic meanings, graphic and artistic production which have accompanied the history of the fine arts in Italy. The collection of the Cini Collection, one of the largest in the world, comprises 236 vintage miniatures between the twelfth and sixteenth century all of Italian origin, in various forms: pages, clippings, whole codexes, tiny volumes. The exhibition recreates the medieval atmosphere that surrounded the production of these tiny works: the scrolls, the raw canvas, the flickering light of the candles, the wisdom of the graphic techniques of calligraphers and illuminators, the choirs with their impressive music stands, the scriptorium.
