The architectural restoration of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni provided an opportunity for a strategic and functional rearrangement of the interiors for a cultural appreciation better suited to visitors. False walls in plasterboard four metres high and mobile suspended ceilings to support the lighting systems neutralise the classicalizing decorative emphasis of Piacentini’s architecture. Hidden behind these elements are the principal technological innovations relating to the conditioning, safety and flexible display systems. The information and commercial signage is clearly distinguished from that of the exhibitions.
