SPA PROPOSAL
PONTE DI LEGNO, VALLE CAMONICA, ITALY, 2017

Ponte di Legno is a central location for the alpine tourism of Val Camonica, whose surrounding mountains include over 100 km of ski runs. To increase the visibility and quality of hospitality the town administration decided to create a new thermal baths that builds on the historic image and benefits of the local Saint Apollonia spring water. The new building replaces the existing administrative offices that have recently been relocated and includes a health spa, large swimming pool, changing rooms and café/bistrot. The aMDL project was based on creating a ‘civic’ building whose multi ridged roof profile reflects the surrounding peaks and whose stone faced classical arches capture the spirit of the ancient roman bath houses. The upper roof terraces are orientated to create a year long solarium that captures and frames the views of the most important mountains and valleys.
